The Sun moves into the sign of Pisces on Wednesday, February 19. Qualities of Pisces include a loving appreciation for beauty – in all its forms. Kind-heartedness, service, creativity, and imagination are also strongly associated with Pisces.  The shadow of Pisces season can bring a more emotional flavoring to our expression. We may be more likely to over-react, feel an urge to escape or retreat from the everyday demands of life, or experience difficulty focusing our energy in productive ways.

Pisces Season Traditional Rulership

Traditionally, Pisces is ruled by the planets Jupiter and Neptune. Under the influence of these planetary energies (especially it’s modern ruler Neptune), Pisces natives have access to experiences around complex emotions, sensitivity to other’s feelings, and subtle impressions.

Neptune is the God of the Waters, and under its influence, Piscean natives can manifest a dreamy, emotional, imaginative, or compassionate expression. They are sensitive to the subtle realms and often read the ‘field’ or others intuitively and unconsciously. Pisces sees under water, so they are able to navigate the emotional realms. But this presents a special challenge, because under Neptune’s influence, there may be an experience of boundary fluidity and dissolving. Separation from the self and the not-self can be weakend resulting in a sense of loss of clarity and identity.

The spiritual ruler of Pisces is Pluto, and this is a very different influence for those working to develop soul consciousness. As the planet of death, transformation, and rebirth, Pluto invites us into a more profound journey. One that takes us into the hidden realms of emotions, not only of yours, but also of others.

Soul-work for the Piscean individual focuses deeply. There is a Plutonian urge to reach into the depths of humanity’s shadow, bring healing and light to the darkest aspects. This can manifest either individually (in service to purification) or in group (as service to the collective). As the shadowy, unredeemed emotions and personality patterns are transformed, we become lighter, and the partnering of soul and personality on the journey of enlightenment find solid footing.
