Transport into the extraordinary

At sunset, there is a clarity of the air that transports me from the ordinary into the extraordinary.Warm light spills across the landscape, a web of spun gold that captures my heart. The liminal time between day and night hangs suspended in the gauzy light.  In this magical space, we can find ourselves. We can feel our essence, pure and clear, free of the distortions of our daily living.

The sunset has always entranced humanity. There is peace to be found, a quiet reflection enjoyed, as one observes the closing of the day. Sunsets have been painted and photographed. They are truly a part of human culture.  It may feel like there is nothing new to be learned from the sunset. The mind knows all about sunsets and has cataloged and filtered and labeled the many experiences you have had. Yes, the mind is an expert on sunsets – or so it believes.

Let the heart speak

heartBut it is the heart that truly knows sunsets!

The heart knows that this unique time at the end of the day is an opportunity to engage directly with Nature. The heart knows that deep change and understanding may arise from this simple contact.

You may learn something new about yourself; you may find the path back to your truth. You may see beyond your beliefs and travel towards your soul’s wisdom.  It is a time to glimpse that there is more to the world than what we think. That is the beauty and the blessings of Nature – She shines a path from the Outer World of our living to our Inner World of Being. Sometimes it is the simplest things that have the most profound effect.

I often fail to see the truth of myself. I have built a cage of my design, confined by my thoughts and beliefs. I carry such rigid ideas of myself, and I tend to filter everything that happens to me through these hard bars. I fail to see the beauty around me, and I fail to see the beauty of my Being. I get caught up in all the busyness of my days, and I think that this is living. No wonder the world can seem dull and burdensome at times. I have filtered out the beauty, mystery, and wonder of Creation.

Escaping a cage

It can feel impossible to escape from this cage.  The golden rays of the setting sun dissolve the bars and open my heart and my eyes to the wonder of All That Is.  There is a purity of the air at sunset, it is like a crystal glass, and it smells of dew and tastes of possibility. It feels like Divine Love. I understand bit by bit, sense by sense, that the world is so much more than I have dreamed of; that there is so much more to my living than my daily to-do list. I am not separate from this golden light and Divine Love but an integral part of it.

The golden light of the sun bathes me in love and grace and heals me. Awaken to the wonder around you, and you will see the wonder of you own life.

We forget this sometimes. There is a world of beauty and grace, and we cover it up, paper it over, bury it deep within our beliefs and doing, under layer and layer of non-truth. We live in a dream of our making, and we cannot see the truth.  It is time to wake up!

As we love and honor ourselves, we love and honor others.  The more beauty and wonder you see around you, the more beauty and wonder you see in yourself.

The world comes together in a new and unique way

SunsetBegin with a sunset. Notice the sunset, immerse yourself in it, even for a few minutes each day, and discover if the sun will illuminate a path to your truth.

The sun may shine on some part of you that seeks to be examined, evaluated, or healed. Observing the sunset is a beautiful spiritual practice that is easy to make part of your daily life. Immersion in this simple act can make the world come alive again for you and lead you to a deeper meaning of Life and your place within it. This practice will help you to honor, not only Nature but yourself.

I invite you to watch the sunset and reflect on the day lived.  Do not list off all the tasks you accomplished or the people you helped or the million things that you attended to, instead reflect on what made you feel alive today?  What brought you joy? What infused you with a sense of wonder?

Experience the sunset through your senses and see what wonder might unfold when you find that space between your thoughts, when you perceive with the heart and not the mind.

The beauty in Nature is a way to connect to your truth and the truth of All That Is. There are wisdom and grace for those who choose to encounter it.

Peace and Blessings of the Sunset to you,

Jan
