New Moon in Libra – 2017

The Influence of Uranus

One of the major players in this Libra new moon is the planet Uranus. Uranus is exactly opposite the Sun/Moon conjunction. This configuration can inspire an evolutionary leap of consciousness in the area of our personal relationships. How this expansion may play out in your life only you can discern, but it helps to be aware of the possibility.

Uranus represents the invitation to expand our minds beyond our conditioning and any preconceived ideas of what is possible. Part of Uranus’ role is to work in ways, sometimes humorous and mysterious, that shake us up where we might be stuck in old mindsets or perceptions. We must shake free of our stuck-ness before we can allow more light and expansion to enter.

Finding Balance and Harmony

Libra is ruled by Venus who loves to create harmony and beauty. Libra is all about relationship. So, this new moon is a time to come into greater balance and harmony in our lives, our relationships, and our environment. But with Uranus playing such a prominent role it might take some radical movement on our part to achieve this balance and harmony.

Conflict may be a part of this desire to create a more authentic presence in our relationships. Can we channel the conflict and disruption in a way that will be helpful and healing rather than creating more chaos? Keeping our hearts open can aid us in this task.

Connecting with the Divine

This new moon also invites us to heal our relationship with the divine. Our human relationships can mirror to us where we are blocking our connection to our own divinity. Are we willing to do the hard work of self-examination that is required if we are to dissolve those obstacles? Exploring our shadow and allowing ourselves to be vulnerable is a step in the right direction and this new moon will support all those efforts.

Dane Rudhyar, in his book, An Astrological Mandala (Vintage Books, 1973) describes the Sabian symbol for this new moon,

“An airplane sails, high in the clear sky. A consciousness able to transcend the conflicts and pressures of the personal life, the individual can gain a new perspective on human problems and reach freedom and peace in a supernal realm of being. This one introduces us to the realm of unity beyond polarity. It is a stage of Transcendent realization.” This is Uranus at work

An Old Cherokee Indian was Speaking to his Grandson

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil, he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good, he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a long minute, and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?’

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one I feed.”
