Full Moon in Aquarius/Leo 2019
Super Moon Meets Lunar Eclipse
The full moon on January 20th holds several potent energies converging. At 12:59 am, (PST) the sun enters the sign of Aquarius. Then at 6:36pm, (PST) there is a total lunar eclipse, followed by the full moon moment at 9:16pm, (PST) Whew!!! A triple whammy.
Aquarius/Leo Axis
Aquarius is the sign of group cooperation and friendships as it rules the 11th house, the house of friends, hopes and wishes. It is also the sign of a world server. One who responds to a worldwide need and who serves humanity without prejudice, or identification with one perspective. It cooperates, collaborates and joins rather than divides. Its symbol is the “water carrier.” “Water of life am I, poured forth to thirsty humanity,” is the mantram for this sign. Aquarius shares it’s gifts to all who are in need.
Aquarius is an air sign and as such it has a mental and social orientation. It deals with ideologies, and at its most highly evolved stands for equality, diversity, innovation, reform, collaboration and community.
Without its opposite sign, Leo, Aquarians are in danger of being too detached from their feelings. The sun of Leo, the warmth and heart energy of Leo brings a needed balance to the Aquarian.
Lunar Eclipse Energy
This lunar eclipse, occurring in the sign of Leo/Aquarius asks us to break old habits, to release the past, and to eliminate any patterns that stand in the way of our evolution. This is the challenge of this eclipse.
- What is standing in the way?
- Are we willing to release it with love and compassion?
- Can we clear the way for something new?
- How can we balance the world-wide perspective of Aquarius with the Leo energy of close personal relationships?
- Can we bring the strength of our personal relationships into the larger arena of world service?
- How can we use our unique gifts in service to the larger whole?
Wolf, Blood, Super Moon
This full moon has many names attached to it. You will see it referred to as the “super, blood, wolf, moon.” Super because it will be very close to the earth and will appear about 15% larger than it actually is. When this happens at the time of the full moon, we call the moon, “super.” Blood moon because as the moon enters the atmosphere of the, earth, we will see all of the colors of the earth’s sunrises and sunsets, as well as all the ash, dust storms, volcanic activity and pollution that is in our atmosphere. This will tint the color of the moon.
The term wolf full moon, we are told, refers to a name given by the Native American people. In January, when the weather is at its coldest, the wolves would gather outside the villages on the night of the full moon and howl the night away, declaring their hunger.
As for the astrology of this super, blood, wolf, full moon we have an interesting mix. Because of the proximity of the lunar eclipse to the full moon we have an intensification of our emotions. Some have termed this full moon a full moon on steroids. So be watching for any over reactiveness or mood swings. Getting clear about your own needs and being courageous in asking for what you want will help temper the desire to strike back in defensiveness.
Rebellion, Revolution, and the Unexpected
The sun and moon make a T-square to the planet Uranus at this full moon. That brings the energy of rebellion, revolution, the unexpected. The other possibility with Uranus is that is presents us with unexpected opportunities and the possibility of breakthroughs and personal transformation. So, in spite of what is going on in the world, it will be important to keep your heart open and stay focused on the positive possibilities that you can imagine for yourself and our country.
Prepare for meditation
In this meditation we will be pausing a couple of times to contemplate some questions. Therefore, it would be handy to have a pen and some paper handy to write down your impressions. Also, a reminder that you can pause this recording at any time to give yourself more time if you need it.
Begin by making sure you are in a comfortable place. Spine relatively erect and feeling a softness throughout your body. Gently close your eyes and allow yourself to be still. Rest your attention on the breath for a few moments. Relaxing as you breathe in and relaxing as you breathe out.
Begin to feel the body let go, into a deep feeling of relaxation. Gently be aware of any places of constriction or tightness in the body and breath light into those areas, giving them permission to loosen and release. Now imagine, in your mind’s eye, a ball of radiant light right above your head. This is the light of your Soul, your Higher Self. It contains all that is of the highest in you. Begin to imagine that this ball of light is positioned right in front of your abdomen. See it there as clearly as you can. Now imagine as you inhale that the ball of light, the light of your Soul, is traveling up your body to the top of your head.
As you exhale the ball of light travels down your spinal column into the earth. So, inhale, up to the head, exhales down the spinal column. (pause)Feel the alignment that takes place as the energy of your Soul travels around your body. (pause) Now, imagine the color, lavender. This is the color of Aquarius. It brings our hearts and minds into cooperative relationship. It blends our heart and mind.
Rest, for a moment, in this energy of peaceful connection. (pause) Now see this soft lavender color healing and relaxing your entire nature. Allow it to create a tenderness, openness, and receptivity within you. As you focus on this openness and receptivity invite the energies of this full moon and the lunar eclipse into your body. Feel yourself welcoming them with faith and trust and re-affirm your commitment to use these energies in a way that will help uplift humanity.
Now let us contemplate our first question. In this season of endings and beginnings I’d like you to gently consider if there are any old habits, any patterns from the past that might be standing in the way of you moving forward on your spiritual path. We will sit in silence for a few moments as you contemplate this question. If you wish, write down your thoughts.
If you have been made aware of what is in the way, are you willing to do the work required to release this old pattern? Write down your intention.
Now I’d like you to consider what gifts you might have that you could bring forth into the world in some way. Please also write these down.
Then ask yourself if you are willing to put these gifts out into the world, no matter what size the offering?
Are you willing?
Take a moment to consider what one, small act you can take to share your gift.
With appreciation and gratitude for whatever insights you might have made, bring yourself gently back to your room and when you are ready slowly open your eyes.
Move your feet and hands around to make sure you are fully in your body.

You enter life a ship laden with meaning, purpose and gifts
sent to be delivered to this hungry world,
and as much as the world needs your cargo,
you need to give it away.
Everything depends on this.
But the world forgets its needs,
and you forget your mission, and

have become faded scrawls on the parchment of dead Pharaohs.
The cargo weighs you heavy the longer it is held.
Spoilage becomes a risk.
The ship sputters from port to port and at each you ask:
“Is this the way?”
But the way cannot be found without knowing your cargo,
and the cargo cannot be known without recognizing there is a way.
It is simply this:
You have gifts.
The world needs your gifts.
You must deliver them.
The world may not know it is starving,
but the hungry know,
and they will find you
when you discover your cargo
