Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac.  Symbolized by the Bull, it’s easy to imagine the traits of determination and strong will, often characterized by Taurean natives.   This is a sign of manifestation, picking up where the preceding sign of Aries left off.   If Aries plants the seeds of new growth, Taurus can be thought of as tending those seeds and seeing them through to fruition.  Whether a garden, a project, or an idea, this is the sign that accepts the “hand off” from what has already been initiated, and then works to see things through to a final result.   Tasked with the responsibility of an assignment, Taurus can be relied upon to do their utmost to get the job done.

As with all Earth signs, there is a practical and grounded quality to Taurus that qualifies it as a stable and reliable resource.   The phrase “down to earth” suits Taurus to a tee.  These are the people you can count on to doggedly see things through after almost everyone else has thrown their hands in the air and given up.  Once committed to a task or a person, a Taurus can be unwavering.  On the other hand, it can be difficult to find yourself on the opposite side of an argument with a Taurus since they can “dig in their heels” and be quite bull-headed.  Persistent and, at times, stubborn, once they make up their mind or focus on a goal, it can be very difficult to persuade them otherwise.   One significant benefit characteristic of this sign, is they are generally very loyal friends who can be very dependable allies, particularly when the going gets tough and everyone else has left the field.

Venus is the ruling planet for Taurus and, to the ancient Romans, she represented love, beauty, and pleasure.   Taurus works hard and relishes the fruits of their labour.  Motivated by rewards, monetary and otherwise, they quite often earn the reputation of being materialistic.  They enjoy the finer things in life such as good food, good wine, fine art and other beautiful things.  Acquisitive by nature, Taurus is often about what they own…thus the phrase “I have” is incredibly well suited to this sign.  For these natives, this also includes a desire for stability and harmony at home.  They value their committed relationships and will appreciate sharing a happy, comfortable home with a stable partner and lots of pretty things to enjoy.   A very tactile sign, Taurus enjoys physical touch and sensual pleasures with romance playing a significant role in their lives.

In the natal chart, the natural house of Taurus is the Second House.   This is the House of Value, Money, Possessions, and Self-Worth.   Where Taurus appears in our natal chart, by house and sign, there are clues about what we most value.   As an example, if one has Taurus on the 4th House cusp, then the foundation of one’s life is likely built on the ability to provide for the family and home environment, either financially or materially.  Stability and security at home is essential, and one might find it difficult to part with things that remind us of our childhood…like that old and worn out Teddy Bear, somehow giving us a feeling of personal security.   Value of family, home and ancestral roots may also be reflected in a determination to keep your heritage and traditional family values alive and flourishing.   For example, celebration of events such as the Holidays may include special treats from recipes handed down over the years from parents or grandparents.   These occasions and practices can be highly-valued by a Fourth House Taurus, and engender feelings of the warmth and security reminiscent of the childhood home.

As the ruler of Taurus, the planet Venus is quite at home in the Second House.  Reflecting on the theme of romance and love mentioned earlier, this placement suggests one will be honest and straightforward in their approach to romantic relationships.  This practical and down to earth nature leaves little room for game playing when it comes to love, since it’s the true essence of the relationship that is valued.   There is a distinct purpose to one’s actions in this regard and people will generally know where they stand.   No games, no doubts.

Take a look at your own chart.  Where does Taurus appear, and in which House and Sign is your Venus?  What is the sign on the 2nd House Cusp, and which planets reside in that House?  All of these factors reflect what you value and how those values show up in your life.  Check it out…is your life currently in keeping with what you value most?  This is an important question to consider as we continue our journey around the Chart and understand what is manifesting in your life, and why.
