A Lunar Trilogy
Wednesday, January 31 presents us with a lunar event that hasn’t happened for 150 years.The full moon occurs at 5:27 am PST and is unique. It contains a trilogy presenting three particular features.
- Super Moon – This very unusual full moon occurs when the earth is at one of its closest points to earth. Due to its closeness to Earth, the moon will appear 33% larger.
- Blue Moon – This full moon is also a blue moon. It’s a blue moon because it is the second full moon in the month of January 2018. We’ve all heard the expression “Once in a blue moon”, as meaning something that is very rare.
- Red Moon – Thirdly, this is also a red moon. There is a lunar eclipse during the full moon where the moon is fully in the Earths shadow. The earth’s shadow filters out all but the red hue giving the moon a red hue.

Meditate, say a prayer, light incense, or dance in the dark around a lit fire. Interesting Fact: The last time this lunar event occurred was in March of 1866. A significant and important historical event occurred in the United States during this period. The US Congress overwhelmingly passed the Civil Rights Act of 1866. This was the first federal legislation to protect the rights of African-Americans. U.S. President Andrew Johnson vetoed the bill on March 27, and Congress overrode the veto on April 9.
