A Powerful Season of Eclipses
We have entered the powerful season of eclipses. As the noted astrologer from EcoAstrology, Stephanie Austin reports,
“Fasten your spiritual seatbelt. The new moon, which formed on July 12 at 7:48 PM PDT, was the first of three eclipses occurring in the next four weeks, signaling a time of major endings and beginnings. Eclipses are extra powerful new and full moons; as the Sun, Moon, and Earth line up more closely, cosmic energies are focalized and intensified, accelerating our evolution. Solar eclipses catalyze shifts in our identity and roles; impelling us to align more deeply with our essence, 
rather than our egoic programming. How we experience them depends on how they activate our birth chart, and on our level of consciousness. Eclipses occur close to the same degree every 19 years. So, to make that connection with the past, it might help to think about: What was important to you in 1999? What do you need to change or complete, to go to the next level?”
Freedom from the Past
At this full moon we will experience the power of a total lunar eclipse in the sign of Aquarius. As the earth’s shadow falls between the Sun and the Moon we are momentarily veiled in darkness. When the Sun’s light goes out what is hidden deep within us emerges, our unfinished business, our secrets, our unacknowledged emotions. These will be crying out for attention and expression. Changes that have been percolating behind the scenes will be stimulated into action. Significant endings might also occur. So, there is an imperative with this eclipse to free ourselves from the past by completing whatever is unfinished within us.
Another important energy we will deal with at this full moon is Mars. Mars is retrograde until August 27th. When this planet is retrograde in the sign of Aquarius is represents an opportunity to uncover what really matters to us. What do we really desire? It also asks us to consider how we might contribute to the larger whole. How can we reclaim our freedom and our individuality?
Finding Clarity or Anger
With Mars sitting right next to the South Node at the moment of the full moon we should be able to get clarity about what no longer inspires us or motivates us. But it can also trigger our anger, so mindfulness about how we deal with our emotions is important.
Uranus is also a player in this full moon. As the Soul ruler of Aquarius, it sits in a challenging aspect to the Sun, Moon, Mars and the nodal axis. There is an amplification of the power to reveal, and the power toward revolution of some sort. This can be a chaotic configuration. We may feel like we are spinning out of control, but one of Uranus’ qualities is the ability to shake us out of our complacency, to reveal to us where we are stuck. We may experience events that are unexpected, erratic behavior, changes that we weren’t anticipating, but it is also possible that this energy brings with it the energy to break with whatever in our past is holding us back.
Face the Unknown
In spite of all the challenges of this full moon we do have the support of other aspects to integrate all the possible changes that may occur. Even though we face the unknown we are invited to trust more deeply in the process that is unfolding and to release our idea of how things should be and accept the reality of what is.

Let us prepare now for meditation
Begin by finding a comfortable place to sit. Perhaps feet on the floor, back straight, but with no strain, feeling gentle and relaxed. Taking a few deep breaths, we begin to notice the softness that flows into the body, this gentle letting go energy, of releasing all that constricts. Now begin to put your attention on the breath, breathing rhythmically, easily letting all tension float away on each exhale. Feel the body sink into relaxation, the mind begin to quiet, and the emotional body become still.
Listen as I repeat a mantram for Leo that speaks to who we are, in our essence.
More radiant than the sun
Purer than the snow
Subtler than the ethers
Is the self,
The Sprit within me.
I am that self
That self am I.
Put your awareness now on your heart center. Remember Leo rules the heart. Imagine yourself sitting on a peaceful beach. You can hear the sounds of the waves crashing onto the shore. You can smell the salt air. Looking around you see it is just about sunrise. Feel the warmth of the breeze on your face, the temperature is just right. Now watch as the sun rises. Imagine it fully above the horizon now, brilliant in its orange/gold flaming light. Breathe that sun right into your heart. Feel its warmth as it irradiates your entire body, filling each cell with light. Your heart beats and with every pulsation the energy of love, of light is sent to every part of your body. Feel this energy fill you with vitality, energy, vibrancy. See yourself as a radiant being of light.
More radiant than the sun. That is you. Feel it in your heart. I am a radiant being, full of light. That is who I am. At my very core I am light and love and intelligence. This is my true deep self.
Purer than the snow. I am a being of essential purity. No matter what I’ve done, or what’s been done to me, in my essence I am pure. I am this love. I am this Sun. The Spirit within,is me.
Now imagine this Sun at the center of your chest. Wherever you go, imagine it shining 360 degrees from that center. Include all those that you see and interact with in that light. Now imagine that the light that is within you is the same light that is within them.
Imagine living your life this way, seeing the light in every person you meet and radiating outward your own inner sun. This is the gift of Leo and Aquarius.
Let us sit in this silence for a few moments before we come back.
Now bring yourself gently back into the room where you are sitting. Feel yourself touching the chair or floor or whatever is under you. Wiggle your fingers and toes and inwardly send your energy down into the center of the earth. When you feel fully in your body, open your eyes.
