The Will to Initiate

This month’s new moon in the sign of Aries brings with it exciting possibilities. Aries is a sign of will and power so whatever it touches will be energized with the will to initiate something. The question is how do we use this powerful will energy? From the level of the personality we say, “ I am determined to do this. I will discipline myself, apply myself to accomplish this goal.” We proceed to use all our ego’s resources to bring this idea into the world. But to what end? Is it to elevate our own selfish needs and desires or can we transform that energy into a higher expression, one that will help uplift humanity or serve the greater good? This new moon offers us the support we need to direct our will to a higher purpose.

Two Minds Unite

Because of the close alignment of Uranus and Mercury at this time we have another exciting possibility. Mercury represents the lower mind, the mind of the ego, of concrete reality. Uranus represents the higher mind, the mind of our wisdom and intuition. When these two come together we are given the opportunity to create new solutions to old systems that no longer work. We have greater access to our highest understandings, our intuitive knowings, which makes it possible to shift our awareness in profound ways.

Seeds of a New Revelation

Dane Rudhyar, a renowned astrologer, describes this month’s new moon as building on the motif of the union of higher and lower: “The highest meets the lowest when this lowest is free from traditional bonds and open to love. The creative future descends first to that which has become chaos. An old order is never open to a new Revelation until it has accepted disorder in the name of that Power which subsumes all forms of order, i.e. Love … A new quality of being is revealed which renders the old patterns obsolete.”

A Poem for Aries

Begin

Begin again to the summoning birds
to the sight of light at the window,
begin to the roar of morning traffic
all along Pembroke Road.

Every beginning is a promise
born in light and dying in dark
determination and exaltation of springtime
flowering the way to work.
Begin to the pageant of queuing girls
the arrogant loneliness of swans in the canal
bridges linking the past and future
old friends passing though with us still.

Begin to the loneliness that cannot end
since it perhaps is what makes us begin,
begin to wonder at unknown faces
at crying birds in the sudden rain
at branches, stark in the willing sunlight
at seagulls foraging for bread
at couples sharing a sunny secret
alone together while making good.

Though we live in a world that dreams of ending
that always seems about to give in
something that will not acknowledge conclusion
insists that we forever begin.

Planting Seeds of a New Revelation

Deepen Your Transformation

Pondering these questions as you enter into meditation this month, especially on the day of the full moon, can deepen your transformation.

How can you use this will energy to help uplift humanity?

What action can you take to bring more of what you love into your life?

Are you willing to do the hard work of discernment in order to be sure your actions are in “right timing?”
