The new moon in Cancer arrives on July 4th at 4:01am, PST. Cancer initiates us into the realm of our deepest feelings.  It reveals the depth and width of our emotional nature. It cares, profoundly. It lets us know that if we want to open to the light we have to be willing to face the darkness. Cancer is the nurturing mother who tends to our every need. Sometimes, however, she is so busy taking care of others that she forgets to acknowledge or express what her own needs are. This new moon is asking us to pay attention, to get quiet and go deep, in order to be clear about the care that we must give to ourselves.

How would your life be transformed if you were able to connect with your deepest needs and express those needs with love and gentleness to those you care about?

In order to receive that clarity and courage we must face the wounds of the past. This new moon presents us with the opportunity to cleanse and heal the garbage we have collected from past hurts.  Cancer does not forget easily so this is a big challenge, but along with recognizing our unfinished business this new moon also supports us as we take on the task of healing. It helps us in our efforts to connect, to relate and to take good care of ourselves.

Mars is in the sign of Scorpio at this new moon and this aspect will bring home to us in a real way the crises we create when we ignore our own needs. But this configuration also acknowledges that we each have the power within us to transform our pain and become a healing force for others.

This new moon highlights the sensitivity of Cancer so our challenge this month is to not get caught up in the emotional drama that our environment might be presenting us with. Chani Nicholas, in her new moon article states it this way, “Try not to get caught in emotional power plays. Stay close to your feelings and feed them what they need. Cancer takes things personally. Don’t. This new moon is bound to hit everyone right in the feels so give the emotions room to roam and sort themselves out.”

Cancer New Moon

A poem for Gemini

Other Real Things
What would it be like to climb into happiness
Like a lit car on an old train and ride
All day past cities and fields? In that little room
There is no particular ending stowed away—
Just you, unafraid. Though the world is bound
By invisible compositions, here
You sit in peaceful solidity, feet on the floor, hand on the sill,
A bright and still place in the midst of other real things.
If the train takes you to the sea, you are there.
Disembarking is as easy as opening the door
Into an evening of salt air so mild
You finally want to stay where you’ve arrived.”

Deepen Your Transformation

Pondering these questions as you enter into meditation this month, especially on the day of the full moon, can deepen your transformation.

What are some steps I can take to heal the wounds of my past?

What would my life look like if I could be clear and direct in the expression of my needs?

How would this new energy of clarity help me be of greater service?
