Mindfulness for Beginners – The Beginner’s Mind
A beginner’s mind requires that we hold an intention and attitude that is open to what is present in the moment. The present moment is perceived as if for the first time and has never been experienced before. It is brand new and full of possibilities. With a beginner’s mind, we are freed of assumptions, expectations, and routine. This then opens us to a flow of intuition, creativity, joy, miracle, and wonder.
Mindfulness Monday – Beginning a Mindfulness Practice
Mindfulness is a practice of being purposefully aware of ourselves and being fully present in the moment. Through practicing mindfulness we strive to become fully attentive to our thoughts, actions, sensations, and feelings in the moment. Mindfulness is a path to developing deliberate consciousness.
Soul Principles – The Spirit of Goodwill
Goodwill is humanity's first attempt to express the love of God, for goodwill is the lowest expression of true love and the one most easily understood. It is time that people should, temporarily at least, stop talking about love, about loving their fellowmen, and about the use of love in solving problems, and talk instead upon a lower and more practical level-that of goodwill.
Bridging a Feeling Mind with a Thinking Heart
Mind combines the abilities of concrete and abstract thinking that are a powerful, busy, and dominating force. The mind focuses on the physical world so that we get our needs met, complete tasks, and manage our lives.
Finding Joy
I never expected the theme of my time on the Camino to be joy. In fact I was preparing myself for grueling long walks that grew monotonous over the weeks and that would require me to dig deep into my resolve as I battered harsh rainy weather and longed for the comforts of home. There definitely were times that were hard and I was in pain with blisters and feeling sorry for myself, or tired. But that was such a small portion of the whole trip. By far the overriding emotion was joy. And the greatest discovery was realizing that I had the capacity to feel that much joy.
Seeing Light through the Cracks
We are all a part of a glorious whole that has lost its sense of interconnectedness. Beyond the political rhetoric lies a loving place of heart and compassion, one of unity. It is only from that place that we can begin to bridge the divide and find a way to the bright future that awaits us. The underlying cause of our deep divide is the foundational truth that we are all afraid. We must remember that the frightened right is not our enemy and they are as afraid as we are. We are all struggling to find steady footing in a dramatically changing social, economic, and environmental landscape as we emerge into a new consciousness. When we recognize that fear (the opposite of love) is the true energy of the divide, we can begin to bridge our differences with energy of loving connection (opposite of fear).
